NCLEX Fee Increase

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Delegate Assembly recently voted to adjust the registration fees for the NCLEX, for both registered nursing (RN) and practical nursing (PN). Effective February 1, 2027, the NCLEX registration fee will be $350 in the United States and Australia. In Canada, the fee will be $570 (CAD). The current fee for the examination is $200 in the United States.

While this is a large increase to implement all at once, as stated in NCSBN's August 21, 2026 online update:

This is the first adjustment to the NCLEX registration fee since 2000. The change reflects 25 years of inflation and rising costs associated with exams, data protection and cybersecurity. As nursing practice, technology and security requirements have evolved over time, the NCLEX has continued to evolve as well. Maintaining a secure, reliable licensure examination is an essential part of helping regulators protect the public and ensuring candidates are prepared for safe entry-level practice.

[Applicants] who complete their registration before Feb. 1, 2027, will be charged the current fee. Those who register on or after Feb. 1, 2027, will be charged the adjusted fee. The exam date does not affect the fee. This applies to all NCLEX registrations, including retakes.
