New NCLEX/PN Examination Passing Standard
On December 8, 2010, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc., (NCSBN) voted to raise the passing standard for the NCLEX/PN examination. This new passing standard is -0.27 logits on the NCLEX/PN logistic scale. The new passing standard is based upon information gathered from the recent analysis of professional practice for the licensed vocational nurse. The analysis identified that entry − level licensed vocational nurses are required to provide care for clients with a greater level of acuity. Accordingly, a higher passing standard is required to ensure the licensure of individuals who possesses the minimum level of competence required for safe and effective practice upon entry into professional practice.
The new passing standard will take effect on April 1, 2011, in conjunction with the 2011 NCLEX/PN Test Plan. A copy of the new test plan may be downloaded from the NCSBN website at, https://www.ncsbn.org/2011_PN_TestPlan.pdf.
